Notes / Commentary:

The initial title of the publication was "The Home, a Fireside Monthly Companion and Guide for the Wife, the Mother, the Sister and the Daughter."

Starting with volume VII (January 1859), the title of the publication was abbreviated to "The Home: A Fireside Monthly." Also issue numbers advance by 3's (1-3, 4-6, etc.) with the first number printed at the foot of the first page next to the volume number.

Starting with volume IX (January 1860), the title of the publication was revised to "Beadle's Home Monthly: A Journal for the Fireside and Home Circle and Repository of Belles-Lettres Literature." The numbering of issued continued to advance by 3's (1-3, 4-6, etc.) with the first number printed at the foot of the first page next to the volume number.

Albert Johannsen reviewed My Neighbor's Stepson as the "[w]orst possible type of goody-goody Sunday School story."

The editor was initially Mrs. H.E.G. Arey, who also edited the Youth's Casket. Once the company moved from Buffalo to New York, however, Mrs. Metta Victor became the editor.

"The demand for the new magazine was greater than anticipated. As with all Beadle's publications, it was the intention to be able to supply back numbers. In the March number of The Home, 1856, is the announcement that the 'January number will be reprinted because the first issue is completely sold out.' Accordingly, a reprint of this number was issued as a supplement in June."--Johannsen, A. House of Beadle and Adams and its dime and nickel novels.
