Notes / Commentary:

Beadle's New York Dime Library began with no. 27, directly succeeding Frank Starr's New York Library. Nos. 1 to 26 are often found with the later series title, however, these are reprints made from the same plates as the earlier series. Some copies of these reprints will have the new series title pasted over the old, presumably because they were sold shortly after the name was changed and before reprints with the new heading had been made. Many of the earliest numbers of these reprints also have fewer pages.

Each number contains a complete story, although several also include short stories or parts of serialized stories. These are usually first printings, except for some reprints of story paper serials. Frontier and Western stories predominate, although those about detectives and criminals are much more common towards the end of the series. Major recurring characters include Buffalo Bill, Thad Burr, Joe Phenix, and Dick Talbot.

Beadle's New York Dime Library has the distinction of being the longest series begun by Beadle, running for a total of twenty-eight years and seven months.

Usually referred to in advertisements and by collectors as Beadle's Dime Library, or simply as the Dime Library. The word "Beadle's" was dropped from the header beginning with issue 973.
