Notes / Commentary:

There were no blurbs published with the Jesse James Stories. The slogan used on the first few issues was "Original Narratives of the James Boys". This was quickly changed to "A Weekly Dealing with the Detective of Crime" which was a way of negating Jesse James as a hero. With the published list of titles appeared the following slogan: "The best Stories Published of the Famous Western Outlaw".

Charles Bragin in his Bibliography of Dime Novels had 138 as the number of Jesse James Stories published. However a check of Street & Smith publications including Boys of America failed to discover any listing above 123. The Street & Smith ledgers at Syracuse University ends with No. 121 with no indication that it is the last issue, however it put a doubt that Nos. 122 and 123 were really published. LeBlanc believed that Charles Bragin got Jesse James Stories mixed with Tousey's James Boys Weekly.

The pseudonym, W. B. Lawson, was used as author on all issues of Jesse James Stories. The true authors are taken from the Street & Smith ledgers maintained at Syracuse University. LeBlanc offered thanks to Lydia C. Schurman for making copies of these ledgers available.
