Notes / Commentary: LeBlanc listed this series as "Frank Leslie's Popular Library" but noted that the title page of the issue examined read "Frank Leslie's Boys' Library Series." An advertisement using this title was seen in the July 14, 1877 issue of Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper. Separate handwritten notes (presumably from Lydia Schurman) separately listed many of the same titles under the heading "Frank Leslie's Popular American Tales for Boys." All of these listings are presumed to refer to the same series, though it is possible they actually represent separate overlapping series. The seven numbered titles listed here come from the aforementioned Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper advertisement, though the author of no. 3 is corrected based on the handwritten "Popular American Tales for Boys" listing. The "Popular Library" listing only contained one title: Three Yankee Boys, which was described as being unnumbered. Physical description, illustration, size and page information come from this listing. Michael Strogoff comes from the handwritten "Popular American Tales for Boys" listing, where it is included as no. 4, but there is a note suggesting the numbering is unofficial; since this numbering has not been confirmed elsewhere, it is left unnumbered here pending further information. Elinors' Chase comes from an unnumbered listing of "Frank Leslie's Boys' Library Series" from The Publishers' Trade List Annual for 1877; it is unclear whether this title was published, as no information can be found on it in other sources.
