Publisher's Blurb: | "The Centennial Series will present three attractive features. First--Historical monographs of important and picturesque events in American History; from the settlement of the Colonies to the coming and concluding celebration at Newburgh, in 1883, with which the series will end. Second--Short Biographies of the early Presidents, and of Revolutionary Heroes and Leaders. Third--Choice specimens of early American Novels, particularly those which illustrate the revolutionary period, the settlement of the Colonies, and the rapid growth of the Country from Ocean to Ocean. Notes / Commentary: |
LeBlanc's never saw one. His original listing includes six unnumbered titles likely taken from a Lovell advertisement (found, among other places, in Lovell's Library no. 34). A different advertisement for the series (found in a hardcover Lovell edition of The Three Spaniards by George Walker) replaces The Partisan and The Two Admirals with Horse Shoe Robinson, split into two parts. This advertisement also shows different pricing than the one LeBlanc examined, with some titles being priced at 15 rather than 20 cents. A WorldCat record listing Life of Marion as "No. 36 of Lovell's Library-Centennial Series" suggests that this may simply be a subseries or rebranded selected reprint of Lovell's Library. |
