"As its title indicates, The Detective and Adventure Library will be devoted to recounting the hazardous and exciting experiences of the Detective, while pursuing his dangerous but fascinating labors; and to tales of thrilling Adventure on Land and Sea — among the miners and outlaws of Australia and California in the early days, when the discovery of gold attracted thither the reckless and lawless — on board a Slaver — among Australian Bushrangers — on a Blockade Runner during the Rebellion— on a Whaler, etc., etc.

"In this respect it occupies an entirely new field. Other series of cheap publications confine themselves almost exclusively to reprinting uncopyrighted English and European books, but few of which possess much interest to American readers. Such cheap so-called Detective stories as are issued, are generally merely parcels of trashy sensationalism, without point, plot or literary merit.

"We ask you to compare a volume of The Detective and Adventure Library with any other 25 cent book or Library published, in Merit, Interest, Size, Number of Pages, and quantity of Illustrations. You will find that 25 cent issues would cost 50 cents to 75 cents, in any other cheap form, and $1.50 in cloth binding.

"The Detective and Adventure Library is published monthly. Each issue contains a complete book. Terms $3.00 per annum, 25 cents per number."
