Series: The Boys of New York v. 13 no. 657 — page 2
Subject / Tag: Sketch
Part of: The Boys of New York, v. XIII, no. 657, March 17, 1888 (Issue)
Date: March 17, 1888
First Sentence: I had not been long at the Standing rock Agency, Fort Yates, Dakota, when the regular issue of annuities was made to the Indians of the reservation.
Last Sentence: The constant tendency among these Indians is, however, to leave the chase and turn to civilization; and when one remembers that only ten years ago many of the Indians who now own little farms scorned the thought of manual labor as degrading, the outlook for them is certainly better than some pessimists would have us believe.
