First Sentence: Recently the Police arrested a man in the street who had a magnificent Louis XV. clock under his coat, and as he was shabbily dressed and wore hobnailed brogans, there was a suspicion that he did not come honestly by an article of such value.
Last Sentence: The duke's splendid equipage, with outriders in livery, was already at the door, and Caderousse bowed himself out while the magistrate was still staring at him in open-mouthed wonder.
