As the golden sun was going down over the blue hills of New England, in the early portion of last century, a ship came gallantly up the board Atlantic, and coursed rapidly along the rugged coast, until the rude cabins of a settlement were discovered, and the blue smoke faintly rising in the clear summer air indicated that human beings dwelt there. |
