First Sentence: "Good-Bye!" said I to my friend Tom Anderson, as I stepped into the boat which was to convey me to the Arrow, a small cutter anchored a few cable lengths from the shore, to which command I had lately been appointed for the purpose of breaking up the smuggling trade.
Last Sentence: Arriving on shore, I succeeded in getting my friend a pardon, and both of us getting married soon after, we bought residences with grounds adjoining, and settled down in life.
