First Sentence: It was a very, very wild day without-a day in which the cold win whistled and whirled upon its icy breath small, freezing particles of snow and sleet-a day when the sun hid its bright face behind a thick, grey, murky veil of clouds, deigning not from morn till eve one smiling ray upon the desolate, shivering earth.
Last Sentence: It is unnecessary to relate how ardently upon the morrow he pressed his suit, as how with trembling and blushes the little nurse confessed her interest, as how when a few days later all prisoners were declared exchanged, Ernest Abbott, instead of taking a southward course, by some mischance, found himself hastening westward, where, we have little doubt, in due time a grand wedding will be recorded.
