First Sentence: "It is really surprising what hardships lads of quite tender years who play truant and go a-wandering sometimes endure, and I am sorry to say I could tell you some tales about truants reported to us who have never returned at all, strange as it may seem in these days," said a police superintendent to the writer.
Last Sentence: "...He went back to London and then reported himself, and the police sent him to New York, where he got to his father after two years' absence."
