Subject / Tag: Sketch
Part of: Good News, v. 14, no. 353, February 6, 1897 (Issue)
Date: February 6, 1897
Edition Description: This sketch begins with Jack and Jill: "Jack and Jill went up the hill, To fetch a pail of water; Jack fell down and cracked his crown, And Jill came tumbling after. "
First Sentence: Dear Friends; I am about to introduce to you this evening two historical personages that from your infancy you must have often heard and read about--in a word, the hero and heroine of the beatuiful verse I have taken for my text this evening, "Jack and Jill."
Last Sentence: I will not detain you much longer, my dear friends, but I wish most earnestly to impress upon your minds the necessity there is for having the water from the water works laid into your houses at once; for should you not do some how do you know but that one of your female relatives may have to go in search of water in company with her Jack and may meet with disaster, and when it is too late you will deeply lament that you did not take warning by the beautiful story that I have told you about to-night how Jack fell down and cracked his crown, And Jill came tumbling after.
