First Sentence:	It was during the latter part of the summer of 1862, that I found myself holding the position of engineer on the Va. and S. C. Railroad; a road at that time held by the government, and used for the transportation of soldiers and military stores.
Last Sentence:	It is needless to say that Dan and I were allowed a whole week of recreation after our hard night's work chasing the runaway iron-horse.
