Wild and sorrowful are the stories of the past which circulate among the people of Corsica, the "dark and bloody ground" of Europe, the theater of sanguinary feuds prompted by ill-regulated and ungovernable passions, while the stern and savage scenery of the island forms a fitting framework for those tragic dramas. |
