First Sentence: Last summer I was stewing away in the office and wondering what crime I had committed to be doomed to such a life, when one morning, I received a note from my old friend, Tommy Cameron, of Clinton.
Last Sentence: For a week I lost the proper use of my limbs owing to my cramped-up state in that chair of his, but before I left Clinton, I was quite myself again, yet when I look back on the concentrated horror of those long hours, I marvel that I kept my reason.
