First Sentence: I had been room-hunting all day, and so weary had I become of this most wearisome of occupations that when, just about sunset, I rang the bell of No. 238--the street does not matter--I made up my mind to take what was offered me, asking no questions.
Last Sentence: I packed my trunk, and then, having made a hurried toilet, went down stairs out into the sunlit, street, never more to enter the haunted house.
