First Sentence: A great many years ago, when there were slaves in Massachusetts, and some of the best men in the community owned them, there was a clergyman in a town in Essex County, the Rev. Mr. Coggswell, an old and favorite servant, named Cuffe.
Last Sentence: "Well, massa," Cuffee [sic] replied, "I thought so all the time you was preaching."
