First Sentence: When a woman takes the notion-and I may as well remark that during fifteen long years of close observation, I find that the notion is chronic with her-to have her own way, there's more genuine, unadulterated stubbornness in her than can be found beneath the tawny hide of a blind mule, and there's nothing under the stars that can effectually move her but the cool, calm, unpremeditated kick of that sightless animal.
