Learning that that eminent Christian Statesman and full-hand-thropist, Hon. Zachariah Chandler of Michigan-the man who ran the Republican party last season, and so readily ran it into the ground-had come on to Washington with a small tomahawk in one hand and a glittering scalping-knife in the other, I at once called upon him at the Ebbitt, in the interests of the New York Weekly and its two million readers, to ascertain, if possible, what meant these gory preparations. |
