First Sentence: The rain yesterday made the birds and animals at Warner's wharf very miserable, especially the monkeys, who sat out in the wet, and looked with disapproving surprise at the leaden sky, as became old Californians, and every line of their careworn faces showed that they, with the rest of the old-timers, considered such a state of things "wholly exceptional, sir, I assure you."
