First Sentence: During the late war, I had the honor to hold a private's commission in the -th Illinois Volunteers, and during the period that I was in service a number of incidents happened in our division which, I believe, as yet, have never been recorded.
Last Sentence: He was kept for some time at our post, but was at last removed to some other place; I never learned where to, or what his fate was, but I have no doubt that he met the usual fate of all spies.
