[Up among the mountains of New Hampshire, in the summer of 1862, the ruins seen in the sketch were pointed out to me as being the identical spot where the sweet poem, so well known in that State, was written. The building has fallen into disuse, except as an occasional shelter for farming implements, and an ivy plant was growing luxuriantly over the roof. The writer of the poem is Mrs. Miron J. Hazeltine, of Danbury, New Hampshire.] |
