|
Date: |

First Sentence: |
"A life on the ocean wave" has too many charms and is too full of excitement and danger to be resisted by the American boy, as a visit on board a "guardo," or receiving-ship will testify, on board of which they are received after having passed a medical examination, when they are instructed as thoroughly in the rudiments of their profession as the exigency of the service will allow, preparatory to being sent off to sea. |
