Our scene is a pretty little bedroom, with pink chintz curtains, an easy chair drawn up in front of a glowing coal fire, and a hothouse bouquet, in a slender Bohemian vase--our time is just fifteen minutes past nine, by the rosewood clock on the mantle-and our heroine is a girl of eighteen, who stands before the dressing glass, unconsciously smiling at the pretty face that smiled back at her from the mirror. |
