The line which divides the States of New York and New Jersey, not far from this modern Gomorrah, passes upon its confines the village of D., where dwells the hero of this sketch, one Adam Peasly, generally known as the professor, from the fact of his having presided for a long time over the little red school house, built years ago, facing the town-hall, and which the more aristocratic portion of the villagers choose to term the academy. |
