"Hank" Cummings, a notorious desperado and murderer, of Southern California, who was to have been hanged at San Diego on the 18th ult., was shrewd enough to cheat the hangman almost at the last moment in a manner in which that necessary, but repulsive, functionary was probably never cheated before. |
