It had been snowing steadily for three days, with great roaring blasts blowing straight from the North Pile, and now, on Christmas eve the wind gradually shifted to the east, and changed the large, soft flakes to a dreary, penetrating mist, that wrapped the wide fields like a gray curtain, and lent an additional brightness to the holiday cheer that reigned within. |
