Chicago Ledger, v. XLV, no. 52, December 29, 1917 (Issue) |
Author: |
Clark, H. Featherston Lieutenant
|
Date: |
December 29, 1917 |
First Sentence: |
A company of Royal Huntingdonshire Regiment had fallen in along the cobbled street of the gray walled French villiage. |
Last Sentence: |
Sir: I am sending you a top hat, the same I made the company laugh with on parade, for which I am sorry, as I thought you would like it as a souvenir of that scrap. The boches were surprised to see me in a top hat, I think. They only hit me once, which was in the shoulder, and is nearly well. Thank you very much for sending my name ub for that bit of ribbon, you being so ill at the time, and which is more than I should have got by rights. Hoping this finds you better than it leaves me--I am yours respectfully, No. 2271, Private E. Ball. |
