Date: |

First Sentence: |
Nowadays, thanks to the busy, active life she leads, the woman of forty or fifty plays a very much more important part in the world than she did some years ago, when any woman with a grown-up family thought that she fulfilled her duty by well looking after her sons and daughters and carefully attending to her house and servants, without taking much notice of what happened in the world outside her own immediate part of it. |
