Nearly sixty-three years ago two letters, both dated Friday, Oct. 18, 1827, were received respectively at Alfred and Waterborough, Me., each conveying to the inhabitants of those villages the intelligence that the Rev. Charles Sharply would preach on the following Sabbath-the 20th-in the forenoon at the former, the afternoon at the latter place, riding a distance of eight miles between services. |
