First Sentence: In the spring of 1876 I was boarding in Washington, D. C., in one of those large, old-fashioned houses of ante-bellum days.
Last Sentence: It maybe easy for my readers to smile at my ghost story and my fright, but it was an experience that nothing would tempt me to go through again, and one that taught me how easy it is for one to go made through terror, or have one's hair turn gray in a single night.
