Description: |
[From the Scranton Republican] It is said of the late P. P. Bliss, the author of "Hold the Fort," and many equally beautiful sacred songs, that he could have saved his life from the recent railroad horror at Ashtabula, but that he refused to relinquish all efforts at rescuing his wife, until both perished together. He has written many a sweet song, but it was reserved for him to sling his sweetest in his dying moments, like the swan, for we see in his unselfish sacrifice a hymn a psalm, and a sermon, all in one. |
