Date: |

First Sentence: |
The modern fortune-teller is so different from the wild-eyed, red-cloaked gipsy, who is supposed to monopolize the secrets of the future in our popular novels and romances, that it is a matter of surprise to me how she manages to dupe educated people, as she often does. |
Last Sentence: |
Fortune-tellers appear to be on the increase, rather than otherwise; and any one, who will take the trouble to scan the columns of newspapers devoted to advertisements of this class, will be astonished at the number of them engaged in this species of swindling. |
