First Sentence: | Nearly every one in the port of New London told Captain Mallet, before he sailed in his fast-sailing fruiter-the Black Joke-for Rio Janiero in the fall of the year 1817, that he had either a knave or a fool on board in the person of Jasper Traine, his cabin-boy. |
Last Sentence: | A fair share of the prize was apportioned to each of the crew by Captain Mallet, who, however, went share and share alike with what remained with Jasper Traine, the silent cabin boy, who, accompanied by his uncle, brought joy and comfort to the poor widow at Worcester. |
