First Sentence: About two o'clock, one December morning, the ever-startling cry of "Fire!" was heard in a thinly-populated section of Hopinton, and they whose ear it reached hastened to the scene of the conflagration--a barn, which soon succumbed to the flames.
Last Sentence: Mrs. Alice Marston nearly fainted when the sentence was announced, and evidently felt more sorrow at her victim's fate than did he himself.
