First Sentence: I was taking a walk one day, in one of the fashionable thoroughfares running from Central Park to Riverside Drive, when I noticed a long-whiskered, middle-aged gentleman, whose garb and general appearance proclaimed him to be from the rural districts, standing on the street corner with a sachel [sic] in his hand and an almost ludicrous expression of despair on his countenance, as if he hadn't quite made up his mind yet whether to laugh or weep over the matter that was worrying him.
Last Sentence: And as I passed on, he was down his knees on the sidewalk, with his sachel [sic] open, rummaging for a sheet of paper and a pencil.
