First Sentence: "I'm afeard that somethin's goin' to happen," muttered Tom Crane, staring up at the roof of the mine, and shaking his grizzled old head.
Last Sentence: Rock creek was turned from its bed and the mine put into working order again, but there are those among the miners at this day who shake their heads ominously, and predict that the stream will sooner or later break bounds, and returning to its old channel, pour down its excess in a more disastrous flood than the one which has been described.
