Notes: |
This is an abbreviated version of John Lewis' "Young Kate," originally published by Harper & Brothers in 1844. The names of the principal characters, the Virginia merchant, his son, and his daughter, have been changed in the dime novel from Mr. Ballenger, William Ballenger, and Matilda Ballenger, to Edward Allen, Harry Allen, and Mattie Allen. The other characters remain the same. |
