ENGL 330 Spring 2018's Thoughts: "The novel introduces Pete Jenkins, a trail hunter who is keen on clearing a path of Native Americans to establish dominance in hopes of reducing the tribe attacks that have been taking place against the village. After a successful trek, Pete and his men return to their settlement where they find Monowano, a mysterious man who has spent time outside of the settlement. Questions surround Monowano’s past, his future plans, and his heritage, but that does not stop Maude from falling in love with him. Maude’s adoptive father, Mordaunt, expresses his disapproval and decides to leave the settlement with a group of ten men and Maude in hopes of discouraging their relationship. Along the way, their boats are separated and placed in extreme danger by Native American tribes that have a score to settle. Unbeknownst to the settlers, Monowano is always nearby, making him seem like a possible Native American spy. If Monowano is to clear his name and rescue the settlers, now is the time to do it, but will he? The Trail Hunters is an action-packed ride from start to finish with a fair amount of humor mixed in."--Joshua Maurice, undergraduate student at NIU enrolled in ENGL 330, Spring 2018
