ENGL 330 Spring 2018's Thoughts: | "The Plymouth Scout is an adventure tale, written in 1871, that takes place in the early American colonial period. Set in the frontier in between Boston and Salem, it explores the interactions between the Puritans fresh off the Mayflower, the Narragansetts (a tribe of Algonquins from Rhode Island), and a member of the Wampanoag confederation (a nation from Massachusetts and Rhode Island). Characters include Annie Carncross, a sweet and respectful English girl; Eutawan, a Wampanoag chief in favor of white settlement; Saul Hinton, a young lieutenant in the Puritan service; and Mark Myerle, a handsome colonist serving under Hinton. Piracy, settling the early frontier, and Indian battles give the Plymoth Scout a distinctly American feeling and reflect the impressions of those who believed in and embraced a proud American history and heritage."--Robin Grooms, undergraduate student at NIU enrolled in ENGL 330, Spring 2018 |
