ENGL 330 Spring 2018's Thoughts: | "This story begins with some great exposition from Big Foot, also known by his English name, Jared Tomlinson, who wears enough cooking equipment on his belt to furnish a newlywed’s home. Big Foot is a scout who shares a camp with his employer, Henry Lawson, and a dutchman named De Graffenried. When he goes off to scout, he is attacked by a stag and saved by Yah-so-bee, a young chief of the the Tuscaroras. The pair cook and prepare the stag for travel, then head back to the camp where De Graffenried and Lawson are waiting. The Europeans try to take Yah-so-bee prisoner, but after a short standoff, Mr. Tomlinson deescalates the situation and Yah-so-bee escapes back to his tribe. The young chief explains what has happened and calls a war party. Meanwhile, Lawson and De Graffenried decide to exile Big Foot for his actions. No sooner does the guide leave them than the Tuscaroras surround the camp."--Nathan Haffey, undergraduate student at NIU enrolled in ENGL 330, Spring 2018 |
