ENGL 330 Spring 2018's Thoughts: "The Shawnee Scout introduces a plethora of characters who are constantly being tested in their ability to protect one another from oncoming threats. Ephe Burler and his nephew, Archy Gordon, join a group of settlers moving into a new log cabin next to another colony. Among the group are Emily Kramer and Rose Realf, two beautiful women who are actively courted by feuding men within the group of new settlers. Unfortunately for the women, a Native American by the name of Little Moccasin is also set in his pursuit for Emily. Likewise, his adoptive brother, Black Panther, is actively pursuing Rose. The group relies on the wisdom of “Uncle Ephe”, but they soon find that sometimes wisdom is outmatched by tactful aggression. The novel meshes physical and mental warfare between the settlers and the Native American tribe, in which the tides are constantly shifting. Families will be split up, battles will be fought, lives will be lost, and readers will be enthralled while reading The Shawnee Scout."--Joshua Maurice, undergraduate student at NIU enrolled in ENGL 330, Spring 2018
