First Sentence: In the year 18-, during the Chilian and Peruvian war, a noble English captain, Lord Cochrane, holding a commission in the Chilian service, purchased a small cutter at Honolulu and gave the command of it to his first lieutenant, Mr. Howel, a fine young sailor of twenty-five.

Last Sentence: In course of time, Howel arrived home, and married his beautiful English bride, who always remembered with gratitude the gallant rescue of her lover by the brave Cochrane.
