First Sentence: |
The soft gray shadows of a clear June evening were settling over the quiet farming district of Maple Valley, and the last faint rays of daylight lingered in the west, touching with delicate lines of crimson and gold, every tree, flower and shrub, which surrounded a pretty white cottage, over whose graceful piazza the dark glossy leaves of the honeysuckle twined in pretty contrast to the delicate white roses which clambered in wanton profusion over its slender pillars. |
