First Sentence:	The sun had nestled down among the pine groves, long ago-the purple tides of twilight were rolling through the valley like the misty waves of some amethystine river, and the sweet Williams, whose velvet spikes of bloom filled the little cottage garden, were freighting the air with a clove-like odor, such as floats through the sunshine of the fair Spice Islands.
